n.1866, from French aviation, noun of action from stem of Latin avis “bird” (see aviary ) and 1580s, from Middle French pédagogie (16c.), from Latin paedagogia, from Greek paidagogia “education, attendance on boys,” from paidagogos “teacher” (see pedagogue ). Coined 2012 by American aviation professional Robert P. Hartigan (1972 – ) in “Aviagogy: Instructing Flight Instructors.”
